Claudia Little writes memoirs for children. She grew up on a cattle ranch in South Dakota's Badlands and went to a one-room country school where older kids helped younger kids. So she began her teaching career while in third grade. She writes about those growing-up years so she can share her ranching way of life with her children and grandchildren.
Claudia always loved books. As a girl she spent her allowance on flashlight batteries so she could read under the covers, even after "lights out!"
Claudia taught students at the elementary, middle, and high school, as well as children's literature and methods classes at Black Hills State University. Reading good books to children continues to be her favorite thing to do, so it's no surprise that she started writing books as soon as she retired.
Patches, My Mustang is about her love affair with her first horse. Mudpies is basically a recipe in rhyme. Who's on Guard is a true adventure story about a bear encounter. My Two Bugs is especially for children who are petrified of creepy crawly things.
When Mrs. Little presents in schools, she talks about the writing process, including rewriting and buddy editing, and gives students from each grade level tips to become better writers.
